Niche Marketings Gold Standard: Keyword research at its very best.
Follow me as I select real live domains to find a hot niche keyword.
In stage 1 of How to Find a Niche market I explained how Google Keywords Tool could find you find keyword phrases absolutely free and I used it to find keyword phrases for my Angry Bird sites.
In stage 2 I used Micro Niche Finder to Find a Profitable Keyword to use for my new Angry Birds Blog and my already stablished Instant Niche Maker site
In stage 3 A Profitable Niche I checked out those results through in Traffic Travis to find how much competition there is for them and if I can use these terms to get the site on the front page of Google.
At each stage I got a different answer so now I have turned to the Creme de la Creme of niche research Market Samurai

This one does the lot, Rank tracker, Keyword research, SEO competition, Domains search, Monetization, Finding Content, Publishing that Content and Promotion. So why do I use the other tools at all?
I find that each of them does the particular bit I use them for in an easier to use format than the others, you don’t need them all but later you will see that it can help if you have access to them. You get a quicker or easier to understand result.
Also it pays to get keyword research right, take time. Get this wrong and you are going to waste a ton of time and money. So I am going to run the whole Angry Birds exercise through Market Samurai to see what happens.
Keyword Research in Market Samurai
- Open Market Samurai
- I have entered the keyword Angry Birds as a new project
- Chosen a phrase length of 3 to 10 words
- Pressed generate keywords, there should be no surprises, they are generated from Google Keyword External – It returns 100 results
- I set the match type to exact, period to daily (that’s the number of searches each day) I use the ‘Golden Rules’ default filter leaving MS to decide what is best.
- I am left with just 38 so are my two domains I previously selected from Google Keywords Tool, Micro Niche Finder and Traffic Travis still on the list? ‘Angry Bird Online’ is ‘Angry Bird Online Game’ is not! Market Samurai does NOT think that is a great choice. Let’s find out why.
- I run a new keyword check for ‘Angry Bird Online Game’ Ah! That’s because it only gets 43 searches a day – 1300 a month, we knew that but MS says that is not enough. Lets see if they can come up with an alternative. Back to the ‘Angry Birds’ search.
- We will now eliminate all the phrases we don’t like next, the ones that do not reflect the site content and may mislead searchers, for instance if we used Angry Birds Tip but didn’t centre the site aroud giving tips serchers would soon click away. Eliminating these leaves just 10 to choose from
- Some of these we haven’t seen in our previous searches for instance ‘angry birds pc’ – not available as one of the big 3 .com .org .net but a .me is available and that is said to be suited to a younger audience. Possible choice but do I like it? I will go with my gut on this one.
- You can check for available domains in MS but I find that feature clumsy. I go back to GoDaddy.com for this, the Domain finding function of MS could be better.
- Checked ‘angry birds PC on Traffic Travis – no go it’s a 3 star. I only accept domains which have a five star Traffic Travis rating
- Hey I see http://angrybirdsonline.ws is available too – checked it on Traffic Travis – 3 star – pity, I won’t use it.
- Whoa! Just seen ‘angry birds game’ looks good, there is a .me and a .ws domain available. It’s 4 star on Traffic Travis, 6608 daily searches on Google how did we miss that? Well it didn’t get listed in Micro Niche Finder, that just shows the value of double and triple checking in different systems.
- Just checking it out on Google to make quite sure, only two paid ads – that’s not good but …….

I don’t know what you got from this series but what I hope you can see is that you can’t do too much research. It is THE most important part of Niche marketing.
Angry Birds isn’t an ideal Niche, the products appeal to kids and are low priced, there aren’t a lot of merchant items to promote but I was already committed with domains and a site so I am betting with get a good domain, promote it well and it will bring in money.
